Neither Ed McIlvenny nor Walter Bahr, as 99% of sources indicate, captained the US team in the match against Chile at the 1950 World Cup. The team captain was Belgian Joe Maca.

Ed McIlvenny (USA), a Scot, was named captain in the previous match against England by Scottish coach Bill Geffrey because he played British football and could inspire his teammates. It was only in the match against England at the 1950 World Cup that Ed McIlvenny was captain. In the game against Chile, the captain was the Belgian Joe Maca. Although almost all sources claim that the captain in the match against Chile was the Native American Walter Bahr. But the photos speak in favor of Maca. (link: )
